Stay Relevant on Google by Spring-Cleaning Your Website.

Spring-cleaning is for more than just your house!

Even if you already have a high-quality website, you can’t let it sit stagnant with the same information, or Google will think it’s no longer relevant. That’s why we recommend spring-cleaning your website! With just a few steps, you can stay relevant and keep both Google and your prospective clients happy.

  1. Update your content (new season, new content)
  2. Updating content on your website is a quick way to see increased traffic. Make sure that you are highlighting all current products or services that you offer and remove any that your company no longer offers. By cleaning out old content, you will increase your site load speed and eliminate potential clutter for users. Google prioritizes fresh, relevant content, so you’ll gain credibility as well.
  3. Remove old links and establish new ones
  4. Nothing is more frustrating than clicking a link on a website and realizing it is not clickable or it leads you to a 404 or incorrect page. One way to ensure this doesn’t happen is to do periodic checks of the links on each page of your website. All links on your website should be relevant to what they’re supposed to lead to. If you are talking about a service you offer, but then post a link or button that goes to the homepage instead of the service page, users could be frustrated with that experience and leave instead of searching for the correct page.
  5. Change out your photos
  6. We’ve all seen a photo on a website and thought, “Wow, that picture looks dated.” Don’t be caught with an outdated website! Use the new season to update your photos. Make sure you remove pictures that may highlight former employees, old products, or outdated spaces in your office. While it is good practice to take photos throughout the year, this cleanup is a good time to snap any photos you didn’t get the chance to capture during the previous year.
  7. Confirm all forms, emails, and phone numbers work
  8. Businesses love leads, that is a simple fact. However, if your site is generating leads, but your leads are going to an outdated email or phone number, you may miss out on opportunities for growth. Check the emails and phone numbers listed on your site, along with the emails that your form fills go to.

While these tips for cleaning up your website are helpful, we know that a business owner's time is limited and valuable. That is why we work with our clients to ensure that their website is periodically updated throughout the year and stays relevant to their potential customers. If you are curious about how Flypaper can help you build a website, you love and keep that website updated for you, head over to our Website and Optimization page to learn more.

Google’s search landscape is evolving, and with the rise of its Search Generative Experience (SGE), businesses need to rethink their SEO strategies. Unlike traditional search, which ranks results based on keywords, SGE harnesses AI to understand search intent, delivering direct answers, summaries, and interactive guides. The shift is significant, and businesses that adapt will be the ones who maintain visibility in this new search environment.
