5 Reasons Your Online Presence Matters During COVID-19

COVID-19 has brought many challenges, but it has also brought opportunities.

6/30/2021 UPDATE: While we continue to see companies return to the office and restrictions be eased, it is important to have a good online presence. This is because many of the changes that were made at the pandemic's peak are going to stick around. One of the main things that will stick around is consumer reliance on technology due to its convenience and speed. So while some of the headings in this article mention things that have come and went the purpose of the article is still as relevant as it was when we initially published it.

1. Searches are still happening.

We are continuing to see searches happen online during the COVID-19 outbreak. Stats are continuing to show that internet usage is spiking, with some reports showing up to a 70% spike in internet usage. While everyday during COVID-19 has brought a new challenge, one thing remains the same: people are still searching. The question that we often ask businesses is, "When someone searches for you online can they find you?" that question is more relevant now than ever.

2. Stimulus is coming to all individuals

The stimulus check that will put money in the pockets of individuals is great news. Now the way people spend that stimulus check will differ depending on the situation some are in. Some families will use the check to replace the income of a lost job, while others will invest their stimulus money into an opportunistic stock market. However, some people will use that money to fund improvements at home and make purchases they have been needing to make. If your business can be found online there's a good chance you can capture a piece of the spending that happens after stimulus checks go out.

3. People are sitting at home looking at things they need to get done.

While sitting at home in quarantine many people are looking around and noticing a laundry list of things that need to be done. Whether they realize they need to hire a lawn care company to take care of the growing grass or they decide to fence in their backyard to create a place for their kids to play, people at home with time on their hands may finally decide to take action on projects they had been delaying. A quick drive through the neighborhood shows that people are still spending money and having work done. The thing that stands out the most is that the businesses getting the work are the businesses who can be easily found online.

4. People don’t have to take time off to let someone in to do the work.

In normal circumstances a customer would have to find a way to be home when the person doing the job showed up. That could mean they have to use vacation time or that they have to hope that they can get an appointment early in the morning or late in the afternoon. However, during COVID-19 most people are at home during the day, making it very easy to be present when a contractor shows up to do the job. What better time for them to look for someone to do that job they've been putting off?

5. Letting people know that you can do “contactless” jobs could get you work.

In a time where social distancing is one of the most popular terms, it is important to promote your services that can be done with little or no contact. By promoting those services, you give potential customers peace of mind that they can still get stuff done while observing social distancing and keeping their family and your employees safe. Some businesses have even put their ability to do contactless jobs front and center on their marketing campaigns. This helps them stand out and show that they can adapt to the circumstances.

So while COVID-19 has changed the way of life for many businesses and individuals, there are still jobs to be had and customers to service. Google’s search landscape is evolving, and with the rise of its Search Generative Experience (SGE), businesses need to rethink their SEO strategies. Unlike traditional search, which ranks results based on keywords, SGE harnesses AI to understand search intent, delivering direct answers, summaries, and interactive guides. The shift is significant, and businesses that adapt will be the ones who maintain visibility in this new search environment.
